Eräältä toiselta sivustolta löydettyä, ompi englanninkielistä ja englantilaista, mutta muuten selvää tekstiä:
“The BMW 1200GS is a cracking machine. It's a versatile, capable bike that provides many a nirvana moment. It's also as reliable, well built and potentially very expensive. Bought first bike in December 2004. Suffered multiple gearbox failures, electrical failures, battery failures (etc, etc, etc). Average distance between breakdowns under 1,000 miles. After gearbox number 3 imploded on the M4 less than 300 miles after installationâ€
“I'm on my second. The first lasted 14 months an did 20k miles. That bike was such a dog in terms of reliability that BMW and the dealership agreed to do me a good deal on a replacement. The second 12GS has done 37k miles in in two years... the front engine casing has been replaced three times due to corrosion (under warranty). The engine/gearbox has been replaced twice... it's now just out of warranty and has blown for the third time. The dealership quoted £1000 to do the work! ...â€
“Reliability! The standard r1200gs bike has been awful (2005 - 18,000 miles). 2 new batteries - despite buying the BMW overpriced charger. Once left stranded by the side of the road. Gear indicator replaced due to wet getting into unit. Clutch plate soaked in oil and replaced after failure of an oil seal at the back of the engine - new clutch required and a wait of 2 months required for parts - pathetic. Corroded and corroding bolts all over the bike - despite regular cleaning. The latest is a siezed alternator, due to a split alternator housing, preventing the engine from turning over. Now past warranty and again this kept me off the road for 2 1/2 weeks while the bike was towed away and fixed - not at BMW this time - I wasn't going to give them anymore business for this machine. Totally fed up with it, but I've spent so much on it I am not going to ditch it now. I'll never get the money back.â€
Vaihdelaatikko suunniteltiin uusiksi muistaakseni viime vuonna, muuten varmaan edelleen ajankohtaista.
